About this Event
Three-hour workshop offering 3 Category I SUPERVISION CEUs. Live, interactive, Zoom based.
It is necessary, but often uncomfortable, for behavioral health professionals to challenge themselves to further develop competency in recognizing and addressing implicit bias. Supervisors have an essential role and responsibility to identify implicit bias and incorporate supervision strategies to address it. The purpose of this workshop is to explore implicit bias and the ways supervisors can assess and address it at the client, supervisee, and agency level. Content will cover the following topics: Shulman's interactional supervision, the impact of implicit bias on practice and client outcomes, and creating the space in supervision for enhancing self-reflection and improved practice.
Objectives:
Participants will:
1. Explore the definitions of implicit bias and bias as defined in law and behavioral health care practice standards, including Health General § 20-1301.
2. Identify strategies in supervision for identifying, addressing, and preventing implicit bias in behavioral health care, including Interactional Supervision (Shulman).
3. Examine the impact of implicit bias on every level of service delivery including intake, assessment, intervention, and agency protocols.
4. Review the National and State standards and expectations for Effective Supervision, including COMAR 10.42.08.
