This lecture will share Indigenous values, practices, and priorities around nature and ecology. It will explore how the connection to land can inform our environmental stewardship and community interactions, and how local tribes like the Pennacook have nurtured and sustained their relationship to land.
Our guest speaker today is Jenny Tibbits (she/they). Jenny is of Abenaki heritage, specifically the Newichawannock subtribe of the Pennacook tribe. Their home land is in the South Berwick/Berwick, Maine and Rollinsford/Somersworth, New Hampshire area. Jenny is an Indigenous elder, teacher, and medicine carrier. They are also an artist, musician, and advocate for Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, and Veteran issues. Jenny is self-employed as a multi-discipline artist. They live in Squamanagonic N'dakinna, now known as Rochester, New Hampshire.
