Award-winning alto saxophonist and composer Immanuel Wilkins burst onto the scene in 2020 with his acclaimed Blue Note debut Omega. His third Blue Note album, Blues Blood, arrived in October 2024 to similar praise.
Omega was named Best New Jazz Release by The New York Times, Best Debut Jazz Album by NPR, and earned an NAACP Image Award nomination. Wilkins also received the Letter One Rising Stars Award that year. His 2022 follow-up, The 7th Hand, appeared on numerous “Best of the Year” lists, and in 2023 he won three DownBeat Critics Poll Awards: Best Alto Saxophonist, Rising Star Composer, and Rising Star Group. In 2024, his quartet was honored as Best International Live Act by the Deutscher Jazz Preis.
Wilkins and his quartet have toured widely, appearing at major venues and festivals including Montreal, Monterey, Umbria, North Sea, Newport, and Pori Jazz, as well as the Kennedy Center, SFJAZZ, and Elbphilharmonie.
As a composer, Wilkins has earned commissions and residencies from The National Jazz Museum in Harlem, The Jazz Gallery, The Kimmel Center, and The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. His collaborations with artists such as Cauleen Smith, Kennedy Yanko, and Theaster Gates reflect his broad creative vision.
In addition to leading his quartet, Wilkins performs with artists including Jason Moran, Kenny Barron, Wynton Marsalis, Bob Dylan, Solange, and Gerald Clayton. A dedicated educator, he has taught and presented masterclasses at institutions from Yale and Oberlin to Amsterdam, Antwerp, and Belgrade, and currently teaches at NYU and The New School.
A $15 drink/food minimum is charged per person in the party, per set, if the total for beverages purchased by the party does not meet the minimum.
