In the very darkness of winter, we come together to celebrate the dark but fertile stillness at this point in the wheel of the year. Although Mother Nature is still cold and her creatures are still resting, the sparks of creation and new life start to sputter and take hold in order to bloom forth in the new life of spring. This is what we will be celebrating. Sabbats are a time to celebrate the seasons that create life and all of nature around us. This is a time for us to finish clearing out spaces (both physical and spiritual/energetic) in order to invite the new into our lives. This time of year is perfect for contemplating new endeavors, especially the creative ones. The Celts celebrated the Goddess Brigidh, the Goddess of the fires both at the home's hearth and the smith's forge. She is also associated with metallurgy--a magical act of alchemy and creation using the element of fire, this element we will celebrate by burning candles with intention. Brigidh's creativity is also represented by a cauldron so we will be using candles in a cauldron with the intention of inspiring and sparking our creative desires into being this coming year. But mostly, sabbats are for celebrating and enjoying one another, so we will have a potluck together after this short ritual. Please bring something to share with everyone else in our sacred circle. Foods that are traditional for this time of year are dairy, seeds, nuts, dried fruits, lamb, and eggs. I will be bringing a libum, which is an ancient Roman cheesecake to offer Brigidh and to share. (It's more savory, so feel free to bring something sweet.) Please write in the comments what you plan to bring so we're not doubling up on things. Feel free to bring items to put on the altar. Crystals associated with this sabbat are amethyst, carnelian, calcite, peridot, moonstone, turquoise, and chrysocolla. Herbs associated are cinnamon, basil, blackberry, chamomile, rosemary and incense such as frankincense, myrrh, lavender, and jasmine. We will be using red, orange, and yellow to honor the sun, the God, and it's slow but steady return to us. And lastly, and the thing I dislike the most, donations are greatly appreciated (for the supplies and to ensure that I can continue to put on rituals) but are never expected. The ritual will start promptly at 6, and the doors or the building are locked. You may have to contact me through here in order for me to let you in the building. I hope to see you all there! Much love and blessings to you all. <3
