This Imagination festival event, presented in French with a bilingual Q&A, will be held at Maison de la littérature at 40 rue Saint-Stanislas.
La belle-mère / The Stepmother, written in French and English simultaneously, is a recent co-creation of poets and performers Rachel McCrum and Amélie Prévost. The show had its premiere in Montreal in September 2024 and is now available in a bilingual edition from L’Hexagone.
Authors
Rachel McCrum is originally from Northern Ireland and has lived in Montréal, Québec, since 2017. From 2010 to 2016, she was based in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she was the first BBC Scotland Poet-in-Residence and recipient of a Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship. Her first solo show, Do Not Alight Here Again, was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She has toured and taught poetry and performance in Ireland, Scotland, England, Greece, South Africa, Haiti, and Canada.
Amélie Prévost has been writing and performing at spoken word shows for about 15 years. Having studied Theatre, she has learned to love team work and has the seven-years-long tour of her duo performance with Queen Ka, Fol ouvrage – Torcher des paillettes, to prove it. She won the Paris poetry slam World Cup in 2016. She has published four books of poetry, notably Osti d’pain blanc (L’Hexagone, 2023), finalist for the CoPo des lycéen.nes award in 2024. Her latest creation, La belle-mère / The Stepmother, written in French and English simultaneously in collaboration with co-author Rachel McCrum, is her first step in writing and performing in English.

Les autrices
Rachel McCrum est originaire d’Irlande du Nord, elle a vécu à Montréal, Québec, depuis 2017. De 2010 à 2016, elle vivait à Édimbourg, en Écosse, où elle a été la première poète en résidence de la BBC Radio Scotland et récipiendaire d’une bourse Robert Louis Stevenson. Elle a donné des lectures et des ateliers en Irlande, en Écosse, en Angleterre, en Grèce, en Afrique du Sud, à Haïti et au Canada.
Amélie Prévost écrit et joue des spectacles de slam depuis maintenant quinze ans. Détentrice d’une formation en théâtre, elle aime le travail d’équipe, comme en témoigne la tournée de son duo avec Queen Ka Fol, ouvrage – Torcher des paillettes, qui a duré 7 ans. Elle a remporté la Coupe du monde de slam poésie en 2016, à Paris. Elle a publié quatre livres de poésie, notamment Osti d’pain blanc (L’Hexagone, 2023), finaliste au prix CoPo des lycéen.nes 2024. Sa plus récente création, La belle-mère / The Stepmother, co-créé avec Rachel Mc Crum et écrite en anglais et en français simultanément, est sa première incursion dans l’écriture et le jeu en anglais.
