I'm Your Venus - Film Screening

In honor of Transgender Day of Visibility, the Mayor’s LGBTQ+ Taskforce and Jersey City Pride are proud to host I’m Your Venus, on Monday, March 31st.

I’m Your Venus pays tribute to the life of Venus Pellagatti Xtravaganza, Jersey City resident and iconic star of the legendary 1990 documentary Paris is Burning which delves into themes of belonging, chosen family and the dynamic ballroom culture of New York City, capturing the essence of a community that continues to inspire.

Serving as a powerful extension of Paris is Burning, I’m Your Venus reunites Venus’ families to honor her enduring legacy while confronting the unresolved tragedy of her M**der. Through revisiting painful memories and examining every detail, the documentary seeks a path toward healing and meaningful change.

The film highlights the intersectionality within the transgender community. Balancing the somber reality of Venus’ death, it overflows with love and celebration for her life with vibrant music and breathtaking ballroom performances-complete with sashays, fierce poses, and death drops-the film pays tribute to Venus as a visionary and a trailblazer.

I’m Your Venus is a moving testament to the power of allyship, unity, and the importance of uplifting one another to ensure visibility for those who too often feel unseen.

For this special night, selected members in the making of this film will be in attendance for a panel discussion after the screening.
