About this Event
Ilan Pappé is the director of the European Center for Palestine Studies at the University of Exeter and a Senior Fellow at the University of Exter's Institute for Arab and Islamic Studies.
Born in Haifa in 1954, Pappé also taught at the University of Haifa from 1984 to 2006. After receiving his Doctorate of Philosophy from Oxford University in 1984, he would move back to the United Kingdom in 2007 to teach at the University of Exeter.
He has written twenty-two books to date, among them The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, On Palestine (jointly with Noam Chomsky), Ten Myths About Israel, and he now comes to share his latest book with us:
Israel on the Brink
In this timely book, historian Ilan Pappé argues that with the 2022 election of the most right-wing government in Israel’s history, the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, and the subsequent Israeli war on Gaza, political fractures inherent in the Jewish state have expanded dangerously—and will potentially lead to Israel’s collapse. With the goal of working towards a transition that is as peaceful as possible, Pappé sets out his thoughts about the risks and opportunities emerging from this historical moment.
