International Jazz Day is proud to be featured in next month’s Small Talks that have been supporting local community initiatives for the past ten years. The proceeds from February’s popular talks will help to fund Whanganui’s 2026 event, and one of the talks will try to explain the IJD project in the allotted five minutes. In the meantime, it’s ‘business as usual’ this Sunday @ Porridge Watson as the usual suspects converge to celebrate our freedom with musical adventures that aim to inspire. Michael Franklin-Browne will be on the drum kit, with Dave Griffiths on bass and Chris Salmon on guitar. Local musicians have a standing invitation to come and join in. We always look forward to welcoming saxophonist Joe Kennedy who often drives down from Taihapi, and you will hear one or more musicians from our jazz orchestra. For those not familiar with these sessions, you can expect the unexpected. The music is all about improvisation, and the performance is an adventure that always depends on who comes to play and who is in the room.
These monthly sessions have been featuring regularly since 2022, and thanks to the club owner, Tony Sundman, there is no charge. This is another opportunity to get out and catch up with old friends and meet new friends with live music providing the soundtrack.
Come down and take advantage of the long, warm summer nights. We look forward to having you join us.
Sunday 25 January from 6pm to 8pm @ Porridge Watson, 30 Drews Ave
