Bring a date; bring a friend. Join us for food, fun, music, and poetry. Do something different with your Sunday evening. We invite everyone to join us for an amazing night of artistry as poets, singers, and musicians grace the stage.
Ignite The Mic Alexandria is the longest running poetry organization in Central Louisiana, and the number one gathering place for artists and lovers of the arts. Ignite The Mic is a local nonprofit organization centered around unity, inclusion, diversity, and healing through the arts. We believe freedom of speech, self-determination, and the pursuit of creative excellence are inalienable rights. Furthermore, we believe poetry can be used to create a healthy dialogue about issues, often deemed taboo to discuss. We strive to create an understanding and appreciation for diverse perspectives by cultivating and amplifying creative voices. The purpose of this event is to promote the creation and performance of art that engages communities and provides a platform for artistic voices to be heard uncensored.
Featured Artists of the Night: Erica Grant (Motives) is a new artist. She was born and raised in Coushatta, Louisiana. Erica is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University where she participated in many organizations including Louisiana Tech’s Poetry Society and Theater. Erica currently works as Speech Language Pathologist - Assistant in different settings. During her free time, she takes delight in learning new information and trading in the stock market. Erica enjoys serving others and believes that her work and art is a way for her to do so.
Nina, stage name The Next Write Thing, is an author, poet, performing artists, and actress. She’s a poet for Alexandria’s very own longest running poetry organization “Ignite the Mic,” where she has been performing for almost 6 years. In 2024, she competed in two Dallas poetry slams where she won back to back, and gained the title “Lyrical Warfare Champion." Nina has become a member of Alexandria’s one and only improv group “Improvocations.” She’s also performed in Spectral Sister’s 10 minute play festival and is now officially a member of the SSP board. She also owns her own media company “My Big Day Media.” In 2022, she released her first book titled “Perplexed.” She enjoys creating different worlds through her writing and performances. Her goal is to hold the hand of each listener and spectator with her words, as she walks them through the shoes of a stranger, in hopes that crafting her visions and emotions into physical art forms will link souls together, if not through the beauty of empathy, then at least a moment of understanding. She finds enjoyment in exploring new things, and has a goal to treat everyday like an adventure. She hopes to always be known by the kindness and smile she lends to everyone she meets, as she believes her “love language” is seizing the moment.
