From our extensive recent industry survey, we know that the themes of Sustainability and ESG are increasingly important to the fresh produce industry. Our survey has shown that there is the perception of both opportunity and uncertainty for our industry in these areas.

The International Fresh Produce Association is hosting two Sustainability Summits in 2023 – Auckland on 28th February, and Sydney on 2nd March. This is an opportunity to come together to hear our industry leaders share their experiences and knowledge in Sustainability and ESG.


At our Sydney Sustainability Summit, Tamara Muruetagoiena, Anthony Kachenko, & Alexandra Banks will join us to discuss sustainability, and how we can work as an industry to explore the uncertainties and capture opportunities.

Speakers:

Tamara Muruetagoiena - Director of Sustainability of the International Fresh Produce Association

Tamara is a sustainability and environmental conservation executive experienced in leading and inspiring teams in complex environments. She has a deep commitment and knowledge of sustainability issues honed by working across public, private, non-profit, and academic organizations.

Tamara brings over two decades of experience in agriculture with an environmental focus. Most recently, she served as the Executive Director of Great Mountain Forest, where she promoted conservation and sustainable forestry and was responsible for the carbon investment program. She has also served as Senior Global Manager in sustainability and R&D at Driscoll’s, where she focused on organisational strategies including sustainable packaging and plastic use, communications, and strategic guidance for the research and development department and relevant work teams.

Anthony Kachenko PhD - General Manager ‑ Production & Sustainability R&D at Horticulture Innovation Australia

Anthony started with the company in 2014 as the Head of Research & Development, before becoming General Manager of Data & Extension in 2019 and General Manager of Stakeholder Experience in 2021. Prior to this, he spent seven years at Greenlife Industry Australia (then Nursery & Garden Industry Australia) in a variety of policy and management roles.

Anthony’s Hort Innovation team includes the Extension function, which is charged with extending the outcomes of levy investments, the Data & Insights unit, which is responsible for providing data, knowledge and insights to underpin all business activities, the Communications unit, which amplifies the outcomes of all our work to our stakeholders, and the Industry Strategic Partnership unit, which works collaboratively with industry to set investment priorities. Anthony has lived and breathed Australian horticulture for more than 20 years, having extensive experience along the agribusiness value chain.

Alexandra Banks - Oceania Partner, Climate Change and Sustainability Services of EY

Alexandra is focused on sustainability and ESG strategy and transformation, particularly in relation to sustainable supply chains and responsible sourcing. She has worked at the interface of business and sustainability her entire career and is driven to support business to meet the challenge and opportunity of sustainable transformation. Alexandra has a particular passion for understanding and managing social and environmental impacts in complex value chains, particularly for forest impact commodities.

Alexandra is versatile and internationally experienced professional with demonstrated expertise in corporate social responsibility, modern slavery risk management, ESG due diligence, non-financial reporting and assurance, supply chain management, ethical trade, sustainable sourcing, due diligence and risk management, auditing, stakeholder engagement, international trade regulation, international law and policy advice. A qualified lawyer, Alexandra worked for an international environmental non-profit and the Australian Government prior to joining EY. Alexandra has lived and worked in northern Europe and across Southeast Asia and Oceania, spending much time in forests and communities at the frontline of sustainability.
