'If Anyone Builds It Everyone Dies' AI Safety Vigil - NYC

We are gathering in solidarity to raise awareness of the urgent dangers posed by unchecked AI development, inspired by Eliezer Yudkowsky & Soares’ new book , and in paralell with other PauseAI protests in . Our goal is to convince US leaders and our AI companies to be the adults in the room and commit to / create binding regulation focusing on safety above profit. It’s up to us to make them understand that they may be the only ones who have the power to prevent AI from having catastrophic, global harms within the next few years, as described in the book.

Broadly capable AI presents massive, global risks to humanity.

Current AI models have already proven they can , , , , , , , , , , and . And this is the least capable it will ever be.

Meanwhile, companies and governments are funding AI as fast as they can get approval, with US companies alone committing to spend an incomprehensible $560 billion (about the cost to build the entire Interstate Highway system) in just January 2025. While many leaders acknowledge the risks, nobody is willing to stand behind those words to make the technology safer.

We are not prepared for the consequences.
