Transnational Cinema in the African Context: Towards an Aesthetics of Contiguity
This presentation examines the dynamics of cultural heritage in transnational African films produced in Canada, focusing on how filmmakers negotiate their identities and cultural worldviews. Through analyzing Pascal Atuma’s film Clash, it explores the concept of “aesthetics of contiguity” and its significance in understanding coexistence and mutual relations. Drawing on Naficy's “Accented Cinema” and Ngugi Wa Thiong'o’s “Globalectics,” the presentation aims to deepen understanding of cultural heritage's role in African, transnational, and Afro-Canadian cinema.
