Identity Development and Trauma - Who am I? and What do I want? - Self-encounter sessions
About this Event

Welcome.

This is an invitation for an experiential in person workshop where we will be diving into the themes of identity, trauma and the development of a healthy relationship with oneself. The focus will be on the personal life situations and their exploration in self-encounter processes using the intention method. Below are some key definitions that may be helpful in gaining a wider perspective at a human life, identity, trauma and society.

What is identity?

In a society an identity is understood as facts about a person, such as name, gender, age, country of origin, ethnicity, religion, etc. that help to identify a person.

However, in the context of a psychological development identity means that it is everything that a human being experienced in life from the time of conception until the present moment. It includes all the life experiences day after day, month after month, year after year that contributed to who we are as a person right now.

If our psychological, emotional and physical development had been supported and nourished from the time of our creation through childhood and adolescence we can live well, have a good life and able to overcome difficult situations.

If during our early developmental stages we experienced traumatic situations that thwarted our ability to live from a place of inner autonomy, freedom, love and joy, in adulthood we may experience difficulties to thrive and to utilise our natural life energy and our personal power.

“Healthy identity is the unconditional ‘Yes’ to our own existence” - Franz Ruppert

What is trauma?

Trauma is an experience that we do not have the emotional, physical or psychological resources to manage and resolve, and it causes a feeling of utter overwhelm and a fear that we may die. We are completely helpless in the face of unstoppable forces, and the only option is to dissociate, freeze and fragment in order to survive.

Trauma of identity in other words is a psychological SPLIT that results in emotional, physical, developmental and relational wounding in a human being.

What is the INTENTION METHOD?

The Intention Method provides a safe way to explore the suppressed and unconscious parts of the psyche, to recover from the effects of trauma and to restore our healthy self. The central focus is on a personal life and an in-depth discovery of one’s own identity. The the theory called IoPT, which is the Identity-oriented Psychotrauma Theory & Therapy, and its practice the Intention Method invites us to explore the existential questions:

WHO AM I? and WHAT DO I WANT?

and it provides a specific perspective on identity, which is defined as everything that a person experienced from the moment of conception until now. The Self-encounter process facilitates the expansion and growth of the healthy self in a safe way. It is a simple and effective tool to access and retrieve the lost parts of our identity and integrate them in a step by step process.

What happens in a a SELF-ENCOUNTER PROCESS ?

In a few words the Self-encounter process is:

  • a meeting with your self and exploration of your inner world
  • a somatic parts work
  • a process of relating to your self and to others
  • a unique and gentle way to process trauma
  • a practice of self-compassion, self-awareness and deep presence

The first step in a Self-encounter process is that a person formulate his/her intention. It can be a sentence, a question, a drawing or elements from a dream, for example:

' Why I have anxiety / depression / insomnia?'

' I want to have family / money / loving relationship, etc."

' I want to explore/heal my fear of public speaking/people/making decisions.

"I want to be happy / healthy / wealthy / free from fear / shame, etc.

"I want to heal/ know why / explore my headaches /pains in the chest /allergies / anxiety / depression./etc."

In a Self-encounter process a person encounters his/her internal PARTS. She/he chooses 3 words from an intention and invites 3 people to resonate in his/her self-encounter process. Once the process starts the intention holder is in charge of the direction of his/her own 'self-encounter' process with the guidance of the leading facilitator and will be invited to relate to their inner parts and gently start reconnecting with the disconnected parts. The aim of this work is to experience an emotional release, more somatic awareness, insights, clarity and connection within to an individual system.
