Objectives:
- Assess obsessive compulsive disorder and eating disorders in clients.
- Identify evidence-based treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder and eating disorders.
- Describe the differences between anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Description:
This training is designed to provide an overview of obsessive-compulsive disorder and eating disorders and how to correctly screen, assess, and implement evidence-based treatment to treat this population properly. This presentation is designed to help clinicians understand the intersection between the two diagnoses and how these symptoms appear across the lifespan. Participants will gain confidence in assessing the appropriate level of care for both obsessive-compulsive disorder and eating disorders and how to identify qualified clinicians in their area.
Sara Brungardt, PhD., LPC is the owner and director of CalmOCD. She has been treating mental health conditions for 13 years and specializing in obsessive-compulsive disorder for the past 9 years. She serves as the director for all 3 CalmOCD locations: Scottsdale, Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, and Sandy, Utah. Sara brings experience treating a variety of mental health conditions in a university setting, private practices, and in-home services to children, teens, and adults. She had the opportunity to initially specialize in the treatment of eating disorders in college athletes and centered in dissertation in young adult women with eating disorders and their relationships with their fathers. Dr. Sara created CalmOCD in September of 2021, due to the high volume of individuals suffering from debilitating OCD and in need of services, she was confident her team could make an impact in the OCD community. Creating a team that provides quality services has been life changing. Dr. Sara feels everyone has the right to receive exceptional care in a non-judgmental and compassionate setting. She brings a relational approach offering warmth, passion, and positivity. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her cat, going thrift/antique shopping, traveling, and heading to her home state of Kansas to visit family.
Bethany Bosier, MS, LPC, LISAC, LCDC, RPT, CCTP is a therapist for CalmOCD in the Scottsdale, Arizona location and provides telehealth to residents in Arizona, Texas, and Nevada. She specializes in treating children, teens and adults with eating disorders, OCD, and additional co-occurring conditions. Bethany obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma where she focused on developmental psychology. She received her master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Texas and specialized in working with children and adolescents. Bethany brings seven years of post-graduate experience treating various mental health disorders in residential, intensive outpatient, school, in-home, and private practice settings. Bethany has extensive experience working with children and families as a Certified Child-Centered Play Therapist and a Registered Play Therapist. She utilizes Child-Centered Play Therapy, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy, Trust-Based Relational Intervention, and family systems to work with children and families to promote an understanding and healing environment for the entire family system. Bethany is a LIAC in Arizona and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor in Texas and recognizes the need to focus on co-occurring treatment of substance use and other mental health disorders simultaneously. Bethany is trained in providing EMDR Therapy and is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. In working with individuals struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating, she utilizes different treatment modalities including ACT, CBT, DBT and ERP. Bethany brings authenticity, honesty, warmth, and humor to her therapeutic approach. Bethany grew up in Northwest Houston and moved to Arizona in 2022 with her husband and three cats. Outside of work, she can be found exploring the local area to find new little gems to love about Arizona. Bethany enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, spending time with loved ones, and attempting to learn how to garden in the desert.
This workshop is appropriate for: Mental health professionals, physicians, nurses, dietitians, nutritionists, school counselors, school psychologists, health coordinators, and other helping professions with an interest in learning more about the prevention, treatment, and recovery from an eating disorder. 3 Continuing Education Credits available: Psychologists - This program is co-sponsored by The Meadows and iaedp-Tucson.
