About this Event
The Idaho Superintendents Network (ISN) is a project developed by the Idaho State Department of Education in partnership with Education Northwest to support the work of district leaders in improving outcomes for all students. Participation in ISN is voluntary. The network is comprised of superintendents who are interested in collaborating together through a learning community focused on the role of leadership in teaching and learning. ISDE acts as a resource and provides the necessary research, experts, and planning to bring superintendents from across the state together to discuss problems of practice.
Since ISN’s inception, district leaders have selected the topics for discussion. Over the years the group has covered a wide range of topics including recruitment and retention of excellent educators, improving outcomes for high-risk students, the importance of early literacy, building stronger community engagement, analyzing teaching, and learning through data, and so on. To stay relevant and timely, ISN also added Hot Topics to every meeting. Hot Topics are 30-minute roundtable discussions led by a member of ISN on any topic that is currently of interest/need to district leaders.
Overwhelmingly, participants in ISN report the opportunity to talk to one another is significant to their ability to lead districts. Connection, relationship, and support is critical to the well-being and success of district leaders.
ISN will focus on two themes for the 2021-22 school year:
1. The critical necessity of leadership
2. Creating a sense of belonging
During the 21/22 school year both themes will be explored in depth. The October and December sessions will be dedicated to specific competencies needed by district leaders. To be successful, a superintendent needs to develop a deeper understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses and to learn how to develop strengths of others to bring about multi-faceted change. A superintendent also needs to harness the support and commitment of the community they serve.
