Hendes to soloalbums ”Time of Ghosts” (2015/2017) og ”The Things We Don´t Know Yet” (2019) har fået virkelig flotte anmeldelser, særligt i England, hvor hun har turneret 5 gange indtil nu.

Presse:
With Scottish roots, transplanted into London’s soil in her teenage years, Samantha Whates is a cosmopolitan Celt with equal parts concrete and heather to her music. In her songs, you’re as likely to hear the breaking of day as you are broken hearts slowly mending, or just the conversational musings of people on their lunch break. All shades of human experience are subtly blended.
Samantha’s delivery is smoothly Scottish to its core. Urban and urbane, you’ll hear the timeless qualities in her songs that reflect the existences of real-life which folk ought to possess.
At the end of 2020 Whates released the coveted vinyl for her second album Waiting Rooms, which was recorded live in a variety of emotionally-charged locations, all waiting rooms, across the UK. Each space brought something new to the process, the end product of which is a field recording opus, as well as just reward for an epic emotional/logistical challenge, held together with the warp and weft of Samantha’s deft voice and her intuitive lyrics. This release comes fresh off the back of Whates signing to Rough Trade Records after forming the quartet PicaPica, produced by Grammy nominated producer Sonny Johns, and sharing vocal duties with BBC Folk Singer Of The Year Josienne Clarke. They released the EP Spring & Shade in late 2018 and followed with their debut LP, Together & Apart earlier in 2019 to critical acclaim.
Samantha is currently working on exciting new music to be released late 2021.
