Abstract
Advancements in remote operations are quickly becoming the norm to help increase safety, performance, and efficiency at the rig. Remote operations of drilling equipment has the potential to enhance well control capabilities while keeping personnel safe and protecting assets. This presentation discusses how Ensign was able to remotely control the mud pumps during a well control situation after the rig had been evacuated.

Tony DeSalvo serves as the Operations Manager of Drilling Solutions at Ensign. In this capacity, he oversees the deployment and utilization of emerging automation technologies at Ensign’s rigs across the globe. He is also responsible for overall management of the legacy controls systems. Tony has over 15 years of industry experience of which he has spent the past 7 years with Ensign.
