About this Event
The meeting will feature presentations on the theme of "Corrosion: Past, Present and Future". Refreshments on arrival and a meal will be provided for attendees following the meeting with time for networking and socialising.
"Corrosion Past and Present" : 200 years of Cathodic Protection, (Paul Lambert Mott MacDonald): The first application of cathodic protection (CP) can be traced back to 1824, when Sir Humphry Davy, in a project financed by the British Navy, succeeded in protecting copper sheathing against corrosion from seawater by the use of iron anodes. Paul will give an outline of Humphry Davy’s discovery and its use in corrosion prevention.
"Corrosion Present and Future" : Non-Destructive Testing Challenges in the Net Zero World (Dr Patricia Conder, ESR Technology) mplementing the goal of a Net Zero world brings a plethora of materials engineering challenges. With new materials applications comes new (and old) degradation threats. This is where Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) comes in. Once equipment is in-service, the role of inspection and monitoring is to assess whether degradation is progressing as predicted (or otherwise), to ensure timely maintenance interventions. The development of NDT has historically lagged behind the discovery of different damage mechanisms. To ensure that NDT can keep up with the rapid pace of change, consideration must be given up-front to the expected challenges associated with the Net Zero transition, well before in-service failures start to occur.
This talk will look cross sector from Hydrogen and CCUS to Wind and Solar to share some insight into the challenges the transition to Net Zero poses to NDT and how corrosion and materials engineers can assist meeting these challenges.
The AGM will follow the presentations with the following agenda:
1. Apologies for absence
2. Minutes of 52nd Annual General Meeting
3. Matters Arising
4. Chairman’s Report
5. Treasurers Report
6. Secretaries Report
7. Membership Report
8. Election of Officers
9. Any other business*
* Any other relevant business should be notified to the secretary 7 days prior to the meeting to be included on the agenda.
A meal and refreshments will be provided for attendees. Any access or dietary requirements should be sent to [email protected]
