A key inspiration for Gene Roddenberry, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and a host of others, producer/director/animator George Pal is best remembered today for his groundbreaking and award winning work on “War of the Worlds,” “The Time Machine,” “When World’s Collide” and his long-running series of “Puppetoons.” Yet, with his movie, “Destination Moon,” it was George Pal – not NASA – who first landed a lunar spacecraft on the moon. Later, he spectacularly destroyed Los Angeles and then the entire Earth. With seven Academy Award nominations, plus an Honorary Award, George Pal invented Sci-Fi and Fantasy filmmaking as we have come to know it. This film celebrates his talent and vision. As audience members arrive, they will be greeted by a musical performance by Carl Hackert. Hackert is the Program Director for the Hudson-Mohawk American Theatre Organ Society, and one of New York’s most talented theatre organists. His performance partner for this event will be “George,” a magnificent re-creation of George Wright’s famous Hollywood Philharmonic recording studio organ. As with other ICFS events, expect prizes, surprises, comfy couches and a convenient bar. Not Rated. 93 minutes.
