ICA San Francisco presents: SMARTBOMB VHS UNIVERSE

SMARTBOMB returns with a new universe of experience for one special evening at the new Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco on Saturday March 5th, 6pm - 9pm PST. SMARTBOMB VHS UNIVERSE opens a new live portal into the creative worlds orbiting within our multimedia project VIDEO HOME SYSTEM, to bring a new experience to life with an interconnected & unified journey of culture & community.

This special event is part of the three month program Meantime taking place mid-construction in advance of the Fall 2022 opening of ICA SF within the 901 Minnesota building.

After a 2 year hiatus from live music & art events, with the help of an array of affiliated artists and guests, SMARTBOMB reimagines a live music experience with a special one night only program which fuses live music/dance/visual art performances, VIDEO HOME SYSTEM short films screenings, and physical art installs to provide an immersive trip into the creative cosmos.

The live music event lockdown in 2020 put a screeching halt to the momentum of SMARTBOMB’s live event series which served as a longtime epicenter for the creative community in Oakland. We responded by creating “VIDEO HOME SYSTEM”, an entirely DIY produced series of audio/visual internet broadcast stream specials seamlessly tying together remote a/v music sets, experimental visual effects, short films, music videos, skits, animations, and more into a series of free online streaming programs. These quarantine era programs were met with much love and appreciation, and we were successful in both bringing the local community closer while also expanding SMARTBOMB’s creative community to farther reaches worldwide. VIDEO HOME SYSTEM continues to develop and expand as we realize the many possibilities ahead.

As SMARTBOMB also emerges back into physical spaces, we see this as an opportunity to reimagine the possibilities of live music, art and film experiences to further share the broader boundary pushing shapes & sounds of creativity in our community. Join us on this special night for a new way to experience our creative cosmos.
