Join Cristy Road Carrera at this launch event for her beast child, Sink or Burn, an illustrated dystopian romance.In Sink or Burn, The year is 2121, and fascism has overthrown a once-thriving utopia. Amid the ashes of a fallen nation, Cheap Glitter—a queer, punk rock band—becomes the voice of resistance. Cheap Glitter's frontwoman, Carolina Tatiana San Lazaro De La Quinta, or CT, tells Cristy Road's personal story of sexual tension, sexual trauma, and falling in love with both the resistance movement and her bandmate. As they tour across a fractured America, raising funds for the fight against a brutal regime, they navigate wildfires, sunken landscapes, and the terrifying laws of a collapsing society.

Cristy will be in conversation with Juliet Takes a Breath author Gabby Rivera about trauma, art, and queer love in times of imperialism.

Sink or Burn is the culmination of all the rage and grieving and lights at the end of many tunnels of the last few years, and we hope tonight can provide the inspiration to commune with your spirit, your ancestors, your curanderas and your favorite friends, lovers and mentors.

About the author: Cristy Road Carrera is a first-generation Cuban-American artist, writer, and musician. She is the creator of three illustrated memoirs, and the revolutionary Next World Tarot, and has been illustrating for cultural and social movements for over 25 years. While exploring race, gender, sexuality, punk rock, and survival, Road creates a visual and audible soundtrack for a broken world.

About the conversation partner: Gabby Rivera is a Bronx-born queer Puerto Rican babe on a mission to create the wildest, most fun stories ever. She's the first Latina to write for Marvel comics. Gabby now makes magic on both coasts, currently residing in California. She writes for all the sweet baby queers and her mom.
