The The Snakes That Ate Florida consists of features and reportage for The New Yorker beginning in 1970 to work published in the last year, including writing on subjects as divergent as the mega-fires that burned the grasslands of the Great Plains in 2018, the tragic secret life of the manufacturer of maraschino cherries, the world’s largest beaver dam, and the invasive Burmese pythons of the Florida Everglades. In this collection, Ian Frazier captures the multiplicity, the strangeness, and the wonder of contemporary life.
Jamaica Kincaid and Frazier became friends while writing for The New Yorker over 50 years ago. She is the award-winning author of numerous short stories and novels, including At the Bottom of the River, Annie John, Lucy, The Autobiography of My Mother, and most recently, a collection of essays, Putting Myself Together: Writing 1974–.
