Exciting news! This October, the Irish American Heritage Museum will host a week long celebration of the Bicentennial of the Erie Canal. The planned series of events will include an exhibition, an Erie Canal Bicentennial interpretive dance performance, lectures, a musical performance, an opportunity to dine with the Captain and crew of the visiting Erie Canal boat Seneca Chief (which opened the Erie Canal in 1825), a chance to visit and tour the Seneca Chief, and a movie screening. More information about each of these is forthcoming.IAHM kicks off this series of Erie Canal Bicentennial events on October 11, 2025 with a multi-media musical journey entitled “Musical Postcards from Irish Albany and Troy.” This performance was written - and will be performed - by local Irish American performing artists Toss the Feathers. This historical concert will tell - through slides, stories, songs and traditional tunes - the story of the Irish immigrants who settled in the Upper Hudson Valley. “Musical Postcards from Irish Albany and Troy” celebrates the cultural legacy of Irish immigrants, the impact of that legacy upstate New York and the Capital Region, and the role of the hardy Irish who dug the Erie Canal over two centuries ago!
Toss the Feathers is Amy Schoch, David Pease and Don Mead, all of whom are known well throughout New York State for their musical mastery and performance skills.
