Our guest speakers are:
Myles MacDonnell, Senior Manager, Major Case Unit with Scotiabank
Topic: Project Carbon
Summary: Project Carbon is a major industry‑wide financial crime investigation initiative involving multiple Canadian financial institutions and merchant acquirers. It focuses on identifying, disrupting, and demarketing collusive, fraudulent, and shell merchants engaged in laundering proceeds of crime through point‑of‑sale (POS) transactions. It was also the recipient of the IAFCI Central Canada Chapter's Investigative Partnership Award in 2025.
Myles MacDonnell manages intelligence led complex, multi‑jurisdictional financial crime investigations. His work focuses on major organized fraud, money laundering, and discovering criminal networks, bringing together advanced analytical methods, strategic risk assessment, and multi‑agency collaboration.
With a professional background that includes multiple roles across Scotiabank’s Corporate Security Department spanning from multiple financial crime typologies, primarily identity crimes, automotive finance fraud, and organized criminal activity.
He has designed investigative frameworks, coordinated large‑scale files, and worked closely with law enforcement, regulatory partners, and industry peers across Canada. Myles also serves on the Executive Board of the IAFCI Central Canada Chapter and is a committed advocate for collaboration and knowledge‑sharing in the fight against financial crime.
Lorne Lipkus, Founding Partner of Lipkus Law LLP
Topic: The Counterfeit Invasion: What’s Really Slipping Into Canada’s Supply Chains?
Summary: Counterfeit Consumer Products? In Canada? In what we think are secure supply chains? Should I be worried? Should I care? Isn’t it just some “copycat” apparel and purses that are so expensive anyways? Nope ... these counterfeits include automotive, aircraft, tech parts as well as electronics, health and beauty, pharmaceuticals/prescription drugs, toys, baby products, medical devices and so many other everyday items that people across Canada and around the world are unknowingly buying and using? Whoa!!! How big is this problem and what is government, law enforcement and customs doing about it?
Lorne Lipkus has been at the forefront of the anti-counterfeiting industry for over 40 years, has been interviewed by almost all major media outlets in Canada, met with governments in Canada and elsewhere, presented Conferences, Workshops, Symposiums, Training Sessions, Webinars coast to coast in Canada. He has been a practicing lawyer since 1981 and has worked extensively with law enforcement, customs, investigators and others in every Province in Canada. He says his area of work is expanding and presents more dangers as new technologies and a challenging economy make it easier to fool the public and the availability of dangerous products is more prevalent and less costly than the real thing.
Coffee, Tea and hot breakfast buffet will be available.
Can't wait to see you there!
