About this Event
Title:
Embodied Healing: Integrating Hard Science with Experiential Practices for Eating Disorders
In person CE event
Event description;
Eating disorder recovery requires an integrated approach that honors both the physical
and psychological dimensions of healing. Embodied Healing: Integrating Hard Science
with Experiential Practices for Eating Disorders brings together the expertise of a
medical doctor and a licensed mental health counselor to provide clinicians with a
deeper understanding of how to safely reintroduce movement into treatment. The
didactic portion, led by the medical doctor, will focus on the physiological realities of
recovery—including the impact of malnutrition, metabolic adaptation, bone health, and
cardiovascular considerations. Clinicians will gain practical recommendations for
guiding clients through the gradual reintegration of exercise and movement,
emphasizing safety, sustainability, and medical monitoring throughout the process.
The second half of the seminar offers an experiential learning opportunity facilitated by
a licensed counselor who specializes in trauma-informed yoga and movement practices.
Drawing from her clinical experience, she will demonstrate how gentle, mindful
movement can support body awareness, self-regulation, and reconnection with
embodied experience—all while remaining sensitive to the vulnerabilities and triggers
often present in clients recovering from eating disorders. Through case examples and
guided experiential practice, participants will learn how to integrate these approaches
into treatment in ways that are evidence-based, trauma-informed, and adaptable across
diverse client needs. This seminar equips attendees with both scientific grounding and
practical tools to expand their treatment repertoire and foster a more holistic, embodied path to recovery.
Objectives:
1. Identify at least three key medical considerations in the safe reintegration of
movement and exercise during eating disorder recovery.
2. Explain the physiological impacts of malnutrition and over-exercise on the body
systems most affected in eating disorders.
3. Demonstrate two trauma-informed yoga or movement practices that can be
applied in clinical work with clients recovering from eating disorders.
4. Integrate medical knowledge and experiential practices into individualized
treatment planning to support embodied healing in eating disorder recovery.
