Empowering Professionals to be Competent Allies
Youth who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, or another diverse identity (LGBTQ+) face several additional complex challenges beyond those typically associated with adolescence, including discrimination and threats to their physical and emotional well-being. It is important to understand how to strengthen protective factors and to work more effectively work with this community.
Training Objectives:
· Build an understanding of LGBTQ+ terms and concepts
· Become aware of specific challenges and intersections faced by the LGBTQ+ community
· Explore best practices for advocates and law enforcement working with LGBTQ+ youth
· Learn about resources available for this population.
Presenters:
Juju Faragher, he/him
Youth Services Specialist – The Montrose Center
JuJu Faragher is the Youth Services Specialist for the Montrose Center working directly with youth in the Center's Hatch Youth programs. He is trained in Positive Youth Development and certified in Mental Health First Aid. At the Montrose Center, JuJu helps provide a safe and affirming space for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults; focusing on creating a community of youth who feel empowered to live healthier and fulfilling lives.
Jhonny Argumedo, he/him
Anti-Violence Program Specialist – The Montrose Center
Jhonny Argumedo is the Anti-Violence Program Specialist for the Montrose Center with experience in crisis intervention, trauma informed care, and victim services programs. At the Montrose Center, he provides a combination of outreach, advocacy and education direct services. He enjoys developing positive relationships and healthy rapport with clients through a client-centered approach.

This workshop is designed for professionals who work with children and/or families in the field of child abuse. This includes professionals in child advocacy, children’s protective services, social work, counseling, mental health, education, medicine, law enforcement, legal professionals, and more.

No fee for 2024 Task Force Members, $25 for Non-Members
