I Scream Social

Presented by Host Publications, I Scream Social is a monthly feminist reading series and ice cream party that takes place at Alienated Majesty Books. We aim to celebrate and empower historically marginalized writers and share incredible literature and diverse perspectives to an Austin-area audience. In August, we are featuring Taisia Kitaiskaia, Laura Villarreal, and Bianca Alyssa Pérez!

Taisia Kitaiskaia is the author of four books: The Nightgown and Other Poems; two volumes of Ask Baba Yaga advice from the witch of Slavic folklore; and Literary Witches: A Celebration of Magical Women Writers, a collaboration with artist Katy Horan and an NPR Great Read of 2017. Her fiction and poetry have appeared in publications such as McSweeney’s, Virginia Quarterly Review, American Short Fiction, and A Public Space, and her story "Engelond" was selected for Best American Short Stories 2024. She is the recipient of fellowships from the James A. Michener Center for Writers and The Corporation of Yaddo.

Laura Villareal is a poet, book critic, and author of Girl’s Guide to Leaving. She's currently working on a book about our human connections to the environment and climate change.

Bianca Alyssa Pérez (she/her) is a Latina poet, educator, and editor born and raised in South Texas. She holds her MFA in Poetry from Texas State University, where she also teaches and coordinates the MFA in Creative Writing program. Her debut chapbook, Gemini Gospel, is published with Host Publications.
