This Composer Portrait tells the extraordinary life story of Clara Schumann, drawing on Clara’s own words from letters and diaries.Created and scripted by distinguished pianist Lucy Parham, who is making a return visit to Chobham Festival, the portrait is narrated by acclaimed actress Juliet Stevenson.
A child prodigy, born in 1819, Clara Schumann – born Wieck – was one of Europe’s most fêted concert pianists during a long and dazzling career. She was a groundbreaking musician and talented composer, as well as devoted wife to Robert Schumann and mother of their eight children.
When her husband declined tragically into mental illness, she continued to run the household while performing internationally to support the family. Clara championed the works of her husband and of Chopin, Mendelssohn, Brahms and many others.
Tickets for this event are £30 (central aisle) and £17.50 (side aisles)
