I AM: Identity in Community with Gina Washington
Fri Aug 19 2022 at 01:00 pm to 02:30 pm
The Sculpture Center | Cleveland, OH
About this Event
Guided by the question, “Who are the dream keepers in Cleveland?” Abigail DeVille’s installation at The Sculpture Center, The Dream Keeper, tells the story of Cleveland and its foundations as a city and community. DeVille lifts the stories of those who have been overshadowed in mainstream documented history of the city. These “Keepers of Culture” as DeVille calls them, are the people who have kept the identity of the city alive through their personal histories. Together Abigail DeVille and Cleveland Artist and Spiritual Guide, Gina Washington invite you to explore your identity as an individual and within your community.
In this workshop, Gina Washington will guide you through an identity-building workshop. Unleash your magic and tap into your soul with two of the most powerful words to be spoken, “I Am.” Plan to ground your energy and express your creative self. Group conversation will lead from there.
Gina Washington is a photographer born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She received her Master’s in Fine Arts in Photography from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and has won numerous awards for her portraiture and multi-medium art. She works with The Visit Arts Collaborative and engages with the community by spreading art to all and connecting with artists of all walks of life. “I consider myself ‘a child of the Universe’ and have traveled to many places collecting images and connecting artists. I have won awards for portraiture and I create art ‘by any means necessary’ combining many different mediums. My goal is to make art accessible to everyone. I teach, I create and I hope to inspire future students as they discover their passions and soar.”
