About this Event
Join us Sunday, September 28 at 7:00 pm at Film Noir Cinema for a screening of I AM CUBA (Soy Cuba) with special guest Professor Jerry Carlson.
A political cinema landmark and one of the most visually impressive films ever made, I Am Cuba captures the spirit of revolution. Born of a Soviet–Cuban collaboration, Mikhail Kalatozov’s film tells four stories of a nation on the verge of change, as unrest drives a working-class revolt. With Carlos Fariñas’s score and Sergei Urusevsky’s cinematography, the film’s imagery continues to inspire filmmakers and audiences alike.
An Emmy Award–winning producer and historian, Carlson has long championed Latin American cinema. Through his CUNY TV series City Cinematheque, he has introduced Cuban film to wider audiences, including an interview with Soy Cuba screenwriter Enrique Pineda Barnet.
