You've seen hypertufa queen Lori Kunzelman's gardens at Canal Fest, now learn how to make your own with this two-hour class.
What is hypertufa?
Hypertufa is a manmade aggregate rock that is excellent for outdoor planters because it's lightweight yet porous. Hypertufa queen Lori Kunzleman has been making planters for 15 years and will now be sharing her knowledge with you! In this class you will learn how to make your own planter out of Portland cement, peat moss, and vermiculite.
Things to know:
1. Wear comfortable shoes (you will be standing to create your planter)
2. Wear older clothing or a protective coverup (we will be working outdoors with cement and peat moss)
3. Bring a mold you would like to use or use one of Lori's! Any hard plastic container that allows for about an inch for the bottom and walls of your planter can be used. Examples: Blue bunny ice cream containers, an existing plastic planter, dollar store containers, use your imagination!
4. Bring a “can-do” attitude. This class will be fun. Sign up with a friend!
We will provide:
1. All materials and instruction to create your hypertufa planter
2. Protective gloves to wear
3. Plastic bags (which act as a liner for your planter and help release the mold once it has set)
4. Molds of various shapes and sizes if you do not have your own
Questions before the class? Give the store a call at 716-694-4822 and we will give you Lori's information so you can get in touch with her.
