Join the Wilfrid Laurier University Facility of Education EDI&I Coalition in February for Black History month screening of “The School to Pr*son Pipeline in Ontario” (47 minutes) followed by post-film discussion.
The school-to-Pr*son pipeline (SPP) refers to the disproportionate tendency of minoritized identities from disadvantaged backgrounds (e.g. Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) to become incarcerated because of increasingly harsh and inequitable school and other institutional policies and practices. Many experts have credited factors such as lack of representation and reflective curriculum, zero-tolerance policies and practices, deficit thinking, and an increase in police in schools in creating and normalizing the "school to Pr*son pipeline".
