Don Brandt
My story about ASHRAE starts in my home state of Pennsylvania where I was born and raised. I graduated from Penn State in 1974 and started at the Trane Co. 2 weeks later as a sales engineer. I joined the Lehigh Valley Chapter of ASHRAE in early 1975 and immediately got involved. Throughout my 39+ yr career at Trane I was always involved in ASHRAE at the Chapter, Regional, and Society levels. ASHRAE involvement brings personal satisfaction while you are helping others and the world.
Upon my retirement from Trane in 2013 I became an instructor at the ASHRAE HVAC Design Essentials class and continued to teach. I have made thousands of friends at ASHRAE in my 50+ yrs of involvement. I have learned about sectors of the HVACR industry that I didn’t get involved with in my career. Understanding how others interact in our industry is essential to our future.
My challenge to the next generation of new ASHRAE members is to provide the levels of indoor comfort that is required around the world and do it with reduced energy consumption. Design with a low energy and carbon footprint as climate change is here and immediate reduction is the most important challenge to our world.
