? After the successful Hustle Spring Course, we continue building the Hustle community in the Netherlands! Join us for the Summer Course. We will be learning this fascinating partner dance together every Friday 19:00 - 20:30 at Solid Ground Movement in Amsterdam with Ivy and Dro, followed up by a free outdoor jam at the IJpromenade (in front of the EYE Museum).? About the dance:
The Hustle (frequently referred to as "The Latin hustle" or "New York Hustle) is a partner dance from NYC that emerged during the disco era in the 1970’s. It has some features in common with mambo, salsa and swing dance.
Created in the South Bronx among Puerto Rican teens it was originally done at house parties, and basements club dances in the South Bronx. The early Latin hustle pioneer is Willie "Marine Boy" Estrada. In the early 2011 Jeff Selby began experimenting with a fusion of current street dance styles and Hustle; and started a new wave of so-called “New Style Hustle”.
In this course we will be learning the foundations of The Hustle and exploring creative ways of finding our own freedom in this fascinating partner dance. Check out the schedule to see a detailed breakdown of the course and what we will be covering in each class.
ℹ️ About your teachers Ivy and Dro:
?? Ivy has been dancing and exploring dance since 2005, she mainly practices House and Afro styles, as well as a variety of partner styles. Her first encounter with Hustle dates back to 2013 when she was learning from Jeff and Robin (New Style Hustle) in NYC; and she later continued the learning path with Matus and Monika (Latin Hustle) from Hustle Bratislava.
??Leandro “Dro” Vanenburg is a key figure in the Dutch Urban dance scene. A seasoned freestyle dancer with several international battles under his belt. Club and Hiphop culture are big part of his lifestyle which he loves to share that with the world. Dro’s mission is to make the dance world more inclusive, more diverse and more understanding.
