Eastleigh and District Local History Society is hosting a captivating talk by Dr. David Ashby, Site Director for Winchester Archaeological Research Group (WARG), who led the 2021-2023 excavation of Hursley Manor.Join us as Dr. Ashby unveils the rich history and dramatic transformation of Hursley Manor, from its early development to its eventual destruction. Through archaeological discoveries, expert insights and fascinating stories from the dig, this talk will bring to life the secrets unearthed beneath Hursley Park.
Dr. Ashby’s passion for archaeology began at a young age, leading him to complete a PhD at the University of Winchester in 2022. He now works as a Technical Lab Manager in the Departments of Archaeology, Anthropology, Geography, and Forensics at the university.
With extensive experience supervising and teaching on community and academic excavations, his expertise in Community Archaeology has shaped numerous projects across Hampshire and Oxfordshire.
The venue is Age Concern Eastleigh, 10 Romsey Road, Eastleigh SO50 9AL. Please note: there is no parking on site but plenty of parking in neighbouring streets.
It is free entry for members. Non members are asked to contribute £2. If you would like to become a member, for £5 per year, please speak to one of the committee at the event.
