We're back at St. Stephen's with another installment of the legendary DC square dance! All proceeds from this dance will go to support Hurricane Helene recovery efforts in Appalachia. Join us for a good time to support a good cause.
The music and dance traditions we so dearly love are rooted in Appalachia. We're using this opportunity to give back to a community which has given so much to us. We aim to raise awareness and money through highlighting the arts and culture of the areas which have been devastated.
When: Saturday, November 9
Time: Doors at 7:30 pm; dancing from 8:00 to 11:00 pm
Place: St. Stephen's Church, 1525 Newton St. NW, Washington, D.C.
Admission: $10 or greater suggested donation. Cash or venmo; sorry, no credit cards.
Directions: We recommend walking, biking, or taking the bus/metro! St. Stephen's is a 10 min walk from the Columbia Heights station on the green/yellow line. For drivers, there is some street parking and a garage below the shopping mall on Park Rd. at 14th Street. Please park only in public spaces; cars without permits may be towed from the church lot.
All are welcome - no experience, partner, or fancy outfit needed. Bring friends, bring water, and BYOB!
All dances will be taught and called by a group of local callers who are donating their talents to this cause.
Live music will be provided by a rotating band of about a dozen top-notch, old-time musicians who are volunteering their services.
The sound system for this fundraiser dance is being generously provided by the Folklore Society of Greater Washington.
