The Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies and Kenyon College invite you to join us for a special workshop celebrating the traditions of Hungarian dance! This welcoming session invites participants of all levels to explore the dynamic movements and communal spirit of dances passed down through generations. Guided by Dr. Henrik Kovács (Hungarian Dance U.) Visiting Fulbright Scholar at Kenyon College, you'll learn simple steps and patterns that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Hungary. Come ready to move, connect and celebrate the joy of dance.This event is free and open to the public! Please note that any participants under the age of 18 are REQUIRED to have a parent/guardian with them at all times. We will not be able to have minors without a parent/guardian attend or participate in the event.

Meet Your Instructor
Dr. Henrik Kovács (Hungarian Dance U.), Visiting Fulbright Scholar at Kenyon College
Henrik Kovács is an Associate Professor at the Hungarian Dance University, where he teaches kinetography, folk dance, teaching methodology, and rehearsal coaching. He serves as Deputy Head of the Folkdance Department, Chair of the Credit Transfer Committee, and is a member of the Council of Students' Scientific Associations. In addition to his university roles, he is affiliated with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences as a member of the Working Committee on Dance Science within the Department of Linguistics and Literary Studies. He also contributes to international dance research projects as a co-researcher.
Henrik earned his first degree in rural development agricultural engineering from Szent István University, focusing on how folk dance ensembles contribute to community development. He later completed both his BA and MA in folk dance teaching at the Hungarian Dance Academy. He also holds a degree in public education leadership from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. In 2019, he earned a PhD in ethnography from the University of Debrecen.
A dedicated educator since the age of 14, Henrik has taught in numerous folk dance groups, courses, and camps throughout the Carpathian Basin. He has participated in international programs such as Leonardo and Euroesthetica, and is the author of several studies on dance methodology and kinetography. He is a Fellow of the International Council of Kinetography Laban and a member of the International Council of Traditional Music and Dance. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit in 2022.

Parking near Hale Hall can be found at the Ohio Union North Garage (at 1780 College Rd) or the Ohio Union South Garage (at 1759 North High St).
