About this Event
You can take an Indian out of India, but never India out of an Indian! Beckoned by the ‘American Dream’, three couples find themselves living it, with a patchwork of dreams and rewritten values, old ways and new ideas.. in the Humerican Dreams! The next generation faces their own challenges in trying to harmonize their mixed presence.
We are a group of professionals with varied interests, theatre being one of them (although some did not know they could actually act!). Many, many, many hours of time, physical and emotional energies have gone into bringing this project to life. We sincerely hope this debut project will be enjoyed and appreciated by all of you. We are all amateurs on theatre and what has propelled us, is a common purpose of giving back to our community while exploring the fringes of our creative potential. We hope this effort is accepted by the audience in a spirit of being kindred spirits and also with a chuckle and smile.
Why 'Humerican Dreams?
Well, because we all as immigrants, live the Hum-'American' dream in one way or another - this is an earnest, albeit novice attempt at showcasing a slice of life and living 'desi-style'! It is an exaggerated satire of sorts - with important truths (the audience absolutely has a choice to accept them or not:) and subtle messages. Not so subtle is the cause and awareness we want to bring to MENTAL HEALTH and specifically relating to TEEN mental health.
Our team is very excited to donate all proceeds to Teen LifeLine, an organization that works in preventing suicidality in teens and helping support their mental health through enhancing resiliency in youth and fostering supportive communities. Please check their website for more information: Teen Lifeline which provides a safe, confidential, and crucial crisis intervention service for Arizona teens. Teen Lifeline’s work is towards its mission to prevent teen suicide in Arizona through enhancing resiliency in youth and fostering supportive communities. This happens through its peer-to-peer crisis hotline and suicide prevention education services for teens, educators, and parents.
