Humanities Night: A Brief History of DEI in the United States
About this Event
Welcome to Humanities Night, a lecture series in Historic Overtown where our community comes together to learn, question, and talk it through.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion is one of the most debated ideas in the country right now. But how many of us know where it actually came from? This month, Dr. Pascale Edouard of HEI | PDE Public Health Consulting traces 150 years of DEI history in the United States. She'll start with Reconstruction and the 14th Amendment and follow it all the way to today's debates. Along the way, she'll look at how these movements shaped communities like Overtown, and what they could mean for where we go next.
Join the conversation: The night includes "Both Sides of the Argument," a 20–25 minute guided activity where attendees work through different perspectives on race-conscious policies and look for common ground. No expertise needed, just an open mind and a willingness to listen.
