Professor Susanna Harris
Textiles are one of the humanities great materials, transforming bodies through dress, and many aspects of life in their production and use. For archaeologists, textiles are challenging because they are perishable and rarely survive. This means that the early story of textiles and their significance is often lost. This lecture examines how archaeologists can investigate the value of textiles in early societies through sites such as Bronze Age pile-dwelling of Must Farm and the early medieval Galloway Hoard.
Venue: Yudowitz Lecture Theatre, Wolfson Medical Building
Lectures start at 5.30pm and are followed by a reception in the Humanities Research Hub, 1 University Gardens at 7pm.
