Hull Noir and Hull Libraries present...

CAPE FEAR (1962) (Cert. 15)
  • Saturday 9 January 2027
  • 6.30pm for a 7pm start
  • Hull Central Library
  • Tickets: £5

Adapted from John D. MacDonald’s psychological thriller, The Executioners (1957) and directed by J Lee Thompson.

After serving eight years in Pr*son, Max Cady (Robert Mitchum) seeks revenge on Sam Bowden (Gregory Peck) the former prosecutor he blames for his incarceration. Cady’s campaign of violent intimidation targets Bowden and his family, forcing them into a desperate fight for survival.

For this special screening, writer, journalist and classic film aficionado, Sarah Morgan, joins Nick Triplow to talk about MacDonald’s source novel, the groundbreaking screen thriller and its wider cultural influence.
