A Kuchipudi performance by Sreelakshmy Govardhanan that explores Radha’s journey through love, longing, and surrender.
Set within the evocative language of Kuchipudi, Hues of Shyāma journeys into the inner world of Radha, not as a distant myth, but as an intimate, lived experience of love.
Conceptualised and choreographed by Sreelakshmy Govardhanan, the performance unfolds through a rich emotional spectrum—longing, desire, tenderness, madness, vulnerability, and surrender. Through Radha’s lens, her relationship with Krishna shifts between closeness and distance, where absence deepens emotion and fleeting moments of union begin to dissolve the boundaries of the self.
As the narrative evolves, love moves beyond attachment into something more expansive. What appears incomplete or unfulfilled transforms into a space of awakening—where surrender becomes not just devotion, but a quiet undoing identity.
Rooted in tradition yet shaped by a nuanced contemporary sensibility, the choreography balances intensity with stillness, sensuality with restraint. Without idealising love, it holds both its beauty and its ache.
