Panel discussion featuring funding application reviewers, and producers who have successfully achieved funding in the past
About this Event

Securing funding for your short film can feel like the most daunting part of the filmmaking process. In this practical, insight-packed panel, you’ll hear directly from both the decision-makers and successful applicants who know exactly what it takes to stand out.

This session will demystify the short film funding application process and give you clear, actionable strategies to strengthen your next submission. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions and gain direct insight from industry professionals who review and approve funding applications, as well as from producers whose projects have successfully secured both public and independent funding.

Our panel will break down what funders are really looking for, the common mistakes that lead to rejections, and how to present your idea with clarity, confidence, and impact. Whether you’re applying for the first time or refining your approach after previous attempts, this session will equip you with practical tools you can use immediately.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • How funding bodies assess short film applications
  • What makes a proposal stand out from the competition
  • How to write a compelling synopsis, director’s statement, and treatment
  • Key budgeting and packaging tips from experienced producers
  • The most common pitfalls — and how to avoid them

The evening will be followed by casual networking, making it the perfect opportunity to meet future collaborators and start planning your next project together!

This event is intended for emerging filmmakers, writers, and producers preparing their next short film application.
