An overlocker is a type of sewing machine that uses multiple threads to seam fabric while also overcasting to cover raw edges. It is a beautiful (and very useful) piece of equipment, but they are a bit more complicated to use than regular sewing machines.The small workshop size ensures valuable one-to-one teacher and participant time, allowing maximum engagement and assistance.
If you are thinking about getting an overlocker or you already have one but you don't feel confident enough to use it, then our Overlocker Workshop is exactly what you need!
This 3 hours workshop is designed to walk you through the basics, build your confidence and teach you what you need to know to use this machine to its full potential.
We will cover:
• what parts the machine has and how they work
• how to thread your machine, and adjust the thread tension
• looking at the different types of seams and finishing techniques
• practice how to sew straight lines, curves, and turn corners
• how to maintain your machine, and prevent costly service charges
All equipment and some materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring with you your machine if you wish to. Should you decide to bring your machine, please remember to bring with you the manual for it (usually, a soft copy can also be found online you don't have the paper copy). We will help you to set it up, but please note that we are not equipped to fix or repair the machines. If for any reason your machine is not working well, we are more than happy for you to use ours in-house.
To keep the class focused on everyone’s personal needs, we are only taking on 3 students per workshop.
Please note that the course will go ahead only if we received a minimum of 2 bookings, in case we need to cancel the class you will get reimbursed.
