About this Event
Start of the growing season right, with a soil test!
Soil tests are a great tool. They will give you data to determine how to fertilize your garden and how much fertilizer to use. A soil test is essential for all new gardens to evalutate the area to potential soil lead levels (from old paint and gasoline).
Hayly from ACCD will join us to discuss lead safety testing and opportunities for FREE soil lead screening.
Nick from Grow Pittsburgh will join us to discuss evaluating soil test for fertilizer recommendations. Don't Guess, Soil Test! In this workshop we will cover the following:
- How to take a soil sample for testing, participants will practice taking a soil sample!
- Evaluating soil safety and testing for Lead
- how to make a lead safety plan of action
- how to read a soil fertility test
- what are the important information to look out for
- how to interpret the results and how to make a plan of action for fertilizing your garden
This event will begin at the Garden Resource Center, Rain location is Grow Pittsburgh Office 6587 Hamilton Avenue, 2W, Pittsburgh, PA 15206 (5 minute walk from GRC)
Parking: Limited on street parking on Putnam St. More parking on Hamilton Avenue.

Accessibility: Site accessible by sidewalk to entrance. GRC site is uneven grassy paths
Restroom info: 1 regular portajohn.
Drinking water: Bring a water bottle to GRC.
