About this Event

How to Taste Coffee is a hands-on 2-hour workshop at Augusta Lab, led by Rambert Sin, Certified SCA Trainer.

The session is built around doing, not watching. You'll move through a series of guided tasting activities that isolate the core building blocks of what's in your cup: acidity, bitterness, body, sweetness, and aroma, one at a time. Then you'll taste five different coffees blind, fill out a tasting worksheet, and compare notes as a group before the lineup gets revealed.

The class is capped at 12 people. By the end of the two hours, you'll have a new vocabulary for what you're tasting, a better understanding of where coffee actually comes from, and a lot more fun drinking it at home.

What to expect:
  • Welcome refreshments on arrival
  • Intro to coffee - seed to cup, the coffee belt, and what's inside a coffee cherry
  • Activity A: side-by-side tasting of two contrasting coffees
  • Activity B: isolating the five core sensory components one by one
  • Main tasting: five coffees blind, with a worksheet to track your impressions
  • Group discussion, lineup reveal, and a look at what's next if you want to go deeper
