Bring along your poorly sewing machine for some TLC!
About this Event

Can you fix it? YES YOU CAN!

Through this introductory class, you will learn how to look after your machine, common issues and how to fix them. You'll go home with a better understanding of how to keep your machine purring! This session is suitable for all brands of sewing machine.

For the first part, your tutor Jennie will talk through how to best care for your machine and how to fix common problems. She will also address your own machine's issue* during her chat (* please inform us before booking / in advance of the class what brand/model of sewing machine you have and what problem(s) you're experiencing with your machine) This will be followed by a tailored Q&A and getting to work with Jennie's guidance in servicing your own sewing machine! Everyone will work on their own machine independently with Jennie offering 'demos' / explanations to the group as well as advice and tips to your needs and particular sewing machine.

If your machine needs more fixing than can be provided during this session you can book your machine in for a discounted repair at Jennie's studio in Walthamstow.

(Fabrications is also an authorised local 'Brother' dealer if you are considering purchasing a sewing machine, please get in touch if you'd like to try out 'Brother's range. We have demonstration models available)

The class is taught by Jennie of Cheekyhandmades who has been teaching sewing, making quilts and repairing sewing machines since 2010. Jennie has a wealth of experience and knowledge to help you on your sewing journey and is passionate about stitching in all its formats and loves passing the joy on!

In the morning Jennie will also be teaching a class on "Getting to know your overlocker", we are offering a small discount if you book both sessions!

On completion of this class participants will confidently be able to:

- Replace needles with ease and sort out damage caused by broken needles

- Clean out the lint (fluff) that gathers in the bobbin area

- Understand how the correct needles, thread and bobbins affect your machine hugely

- Understand how the sewing machine works mechanically

- Where and how often to oil

- Aquire practical tips and troubleshoot for your specific sewing machine

- Resolve tension issues

- Change a lightbulb

- Maintenance advice
