About this Event
How to Perform a Scream, Letter by Letter? is a collective, participatory workshop, a moderated writing session that transforms the written word into a shared action through the performance of text. Participants write letters in response to an apocalyptic lover of their choosing, using the epistolary form in their own tongues. An apocalyptic lover is the force you desire even as it destroys you—a system, a state, a body, or a memory. It seduces through power, promises safety while enacting harm, and offers love wrapped in control. It is dressed as care, disguised as intimacy, and whispered through longing. To name the apocalyptic lover is to expose the violence embedded in closeness and to begin resisting it through voice, rupture, and collective defiance.
What will we do?
From these writings and exercises, we will collectively select single words, cut their letters from 200 g A4 paper, and turn them into tangible, functional objects—ready to be held and activated through voice, movement, and gesture. The letters become part of a live, cacophonic choir moving through the space, with bodies holding the chosen letters and vocalizing them simultaneously, in different tones and manners.
Using voice as a tool, the goal is to perform a living book: a lexicon that deforms, recombines, and generates new meanings, tongues, and contexts, rewritten through movement and sound. The exercise becomes a playful yet urgent exploration of collective imagination in the face of dangerous lovers.
