How to facilitate group model building workshops 2026

Join us for a 2-day workshop to:

• build understanding and capabilities in group model building (GMB) (systems workshops/mapping), including the development of causal loop diagrams (CLD) (systems maps)
• learn how to visualise interconnected influences of systemic problems by building a systems map using STICKE, a Deakin developed software platform designed for collaborative systems mapping
• develop an understanding of the basic principles of systems thinking by participating in a GMB process and building CLDs using STICKE
• build confidence in facilitating GMB through practice
• consider and discuss how systems mapping and systems workshops can fit into your work practice to enhance community health and wellbeing.

Day 1 - 10.30am to 5pm

Focuses on the facilitation of GMB in the community, including an introduction to systems terms and systems ways of thinking and working. Participants learn through real examples and begin to explore the development of causal loops diagrams through use of the STICKE system modelling software.

Day 2 - 9am to 3.30pm

Workshop participants put the concepts learned during day 1 into practice, and work collaboratively on structured examples. Participants experience workshop facilitation first-hand, including building a diagram with a small group using the STICKE software platform.

The workshop fee of $1,250 (incl GST) includes:

• 2-day workshop led by experienced facilitators

• 12-month STICKE licence (If you currently hold a STICKE licence, you will receive a 12-month extension.)

• catering for the 2 days

• access to 2 x 1-hour drop-in session for support, scheduled in the 8 weeks following the workshop, to provide further support and assistance to workshop participants.
