About this Event
Session title: How to embed Fundamentals of Care into standards of practice using Quality Improvement methodology - insights of what went well or not.
Join this hybrid session featuring Dr Jenny Parr, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Auckland, Australia, explaring the Fundamentals of Care (FoC) Framework and its practical integration into standards of practice using quality improvement (QI) methodology.
Drawing on international experience across health systems in New Zealand and the UK, Dr Parr will share insights into what has worked well, what has not, and key lessons learned when embedding FoC at scale. The session will encourage reflection, dialogue, and knowledge exchange among participants involved in clinical practice, leadership, education, and improvement initiatives.
This session is part of the ILC LAMP – Canada program, hosted by the Science of Care Institute (SCI) in collaboration with the Centre for Nursing Excellence (CNE).

About our Guest Speaker:
Dr Jenny Parr, RN, Dip HE (Midwifery), MSc, DHSc, FCNA(NZ)
Senior Research Fellow, School of Nursing, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland, Australia.
Jenny is an experienced health leader with more than 12 years as an Executive Director and Clinical Leader in New Zealand and England UK. She has also held several Board level positions including over 5 years on the Health Quality Safety Commission (NZ) and the International Learning Collaborative Management/Steering Committees, 3 years on an NHS Board as Executive Director and over 6 years as Trustee of the Alice Nelson Charitable Trust (NZ). She is an inaugural member of the Management Committee and mentor for the ILC FOC Leadership and Mentoring Programme since its inception.
Jenny gained ILC Foundation membership status for Te Whatu Ora | Health New Zealand in 2024 following continued growth in membership and commitment across the public health system to Fundamental Care. Jenny is active in the pursuit of achieving excellence in care for Māori having led a research program in New Zealand exploring the alignment of the Fundamentals of Care Framework with care aspirations of patients, whānau and Māori.
Jenny is a Registered Nurse and qualified midwife with a Doctorate in Health Science. Her research interest and experience involves the relationship between leadership, fundamentals of care, Māori centred models of care, and creating clinical academic career pathways for nurses.
